When I met Sita and gazed into her gorgeous eyes, we immediately bonded. It was a bond that would last over 14 years. Sita alerted me to dangerous sounds all the time. She was always by my side knowing that I needed her.
But her enormous personality was unbelievable. She was beloved by my students, many of who poured out condolences when she passed. She comforted crying and distraught clients in the private practice where I worked. She was there for the bad times when my mother died, and when I was diagnosed with incurable cancer. She was there for the fun times when I received my Faculty of the Year honor, and when she played with her black lab boyfriend Max. I knew I loved her but it wasn’t until she went over the Rainbow Bridge and hundreds of messages and dozens of cards and gifts were sent about how much she was beloved by all. Her gentle, sweet, and caring personality taught all of us to be better people.
She had two books written about her and did programs all over the country with many donations sent to Circle Tail in her honor. But all she wanted was a treat and a pat on the head.
My favorite story was when she was with me in the practice where I worked. My client was sobbing uncontrollably and I was comforting her. Sita was under my desk and we did not even remember she was there. Suddenly she crawled out and went to the top of the desk. With her mouth, she gently pulled out a tissue, trotted over, and handed it to my client. We both laughed as the woman said, “Sita, you have made my day!”
She had not been taught this but had observed me giving tissues to crying people and knew exactly what to do. My gentle and loving dog was a comfort to all. I know you are over the Rainbow Bridge playing with Max and waiting for me to get there. Rest in peace my soul mate – you deserve it.
